The objective numbers gleaned from car review articles can give you a pretty good idea of what the folks here say regularly: more expensive to live with than an Asian car, less than American or European... but worth it. It's that second, subjective part that is harder to explain.
The car itself is just fine & great fun to drive. If you press real hard with the right foot at about 40 mph you may get a glimpse of god. But, I suspect a large portion of the appeal is something else. This includes relative brand obscurity and the self-congradulatory feeling that you're surrounded by other Saab owners who see themselves and cars as special (but not Snaabs). Not driven by herd mentality or marketing popularity, we recognize & appreciate subtle quality. A lot of us thought Betamax should have won; an unreasonable % use Macs & have advanced degrees; it's the brand with the highest % cars never smoked in; while BMW seem to fine cars , most of the owners are shallow posers (not all, Eric).
If you think of a car as an appliance for transportation, a Saab will not be your best value.
