About her. I guess my addendum sounded flippant. I agree with you completely and like the plan you describe Although it does sound tough--I don't know any other way to change behavior. I don't think teens understand mortality enough to rely on that. In our house, "time" is as, or even more, important than money and I have been trying to raise her that coming up with the money does not on its own get you out of responsibility, so in addition to paying half the cost (our up front deal) she is to come up with a plan to "give back" to us the time we spend with the repairs taking over our "chores" in place of going out. Only way for her to know what it's like to waste an hour in the tire store waiting room, the 30 minute drives through rush hour to the repair shop and the logistics of delivery/pick up cars between me and my hard working wife. Only after watching her frustration going through two year old car magazines in the shop did I realize how we had protected her from this reality for her first 17 years.
