and have since bought the Thule "Playpen," and steel cage that is extremely sturdy and will hold lots of stuff, AND comes with a set of additonal bars so you can stack stuff over it, like bike racks. There's at least one EBAY seller in the NW US who deals in Thule discounted (sells those big cargo boxes). Outdoor stores have thule bike racks. I have the rails that take a bike with the wheels on, and have had three bikes up there with no problem.
But be sure to start with the SAAB cross bars, which can be had from http://www.genuinesaab.com (taliaferro) at a good price. Don't buy the bike racks from a SAAB dealer, as they are much cheaper elsewhere.
