Ease of upright v. security of fork mount...

If you value ease of mounting, the upright mounts are the better way to go. You do not have to get dirty taking the front wheel off w/ that format. BUT, I like the security and aerodynamics of the fork mount. Mileage believe it or not will suffer less w/ the fork mount, including the front wheel holder (I strategically mounted it out of the wind flow, behind the fork on rear bar).
Upright mounts are easier for the spouses to use, which IS worth alot, but the cost is significantly higher.
I have not decided whether to go w/ the Thule or Saab crossbars.
I use Thule mounts, and a Yakima box on my cars, and the mix works well. Have had four bikes on my old Jetta no problem, and with the increased capacity of the saab wagon, I see no reason why you can not get four or five on top.
Anybody know if you can get LONGER bars than the thule ones or the Saab? I recall that the Thule ones can use longer bars b/c of the opening, while the Saab bars are closed on the end. comments please.
