Without knowing anything in particular about the design, one might suppose that DI cassette longevity is affected by the maximum voltage reached prior to the spark happening. The wider the gap, the higher that voltage. The more dense the charge, the higher the voltage. I would set the plugs to the minimum recommended gap.
One of the features of Saab's "Spark ignition direct injection", aka "Saab Combustion Control", is a variable spark gap based indirectly on charge density. At very low density the timing is massively advanced, as the flame propogation is very slow. The spark occurs across the huge gap between the electrodes of the igniter/injector. During high power, with a dense charge, timing is correspondingly retarded, and the spark occurs across the smaller gap between the center electrode and a protrusion on the piston.
