Yes, once I had the batteries removed, I was able to clean the corrosion and get down to the copper traces. I actually couldn't see the trace was gone until I cleaned the PC board. Where the trace was gone, I just sanded the cover off a small portion of good trace to expose the copper and soldered a wire jumper between it and the battery terminal it was supposed to be connected to. Then, to protect it, covered it with expoxy, let it dry and re-installed.
Incidentally, the two batteries were showing a collective voltage of 5.8 volts. Wasn't sure if this was enough but I had no replacement cells as I had to open the unit up to see what was needed, then order. So either way, I had to re-install the unit because it was either now fixed, or, until I could get batteries delivered. As it happens, 5.8 v seems to be enough as the SID message is gone. If it returns, I'll then order batteries and receive them before I remove the unit.
