I think my DI is on the way out. Two weeks ago my 'Check Engine' light came on. It did this immediately after filling up with full tank of gas so I thought maybe I didn't tighten the gas cap enough (yes, the vehicle was off when I filled it). The light turned off after 2 days so I just assumed it was the gas thing. Well it happened again this past weekend, in the middle of the tank, and stayed on for 3-4 days. It went off immediately after I swapped in my spare DI. I probably should have swapped the old one back in to see if the Light returned, but I was in a hurry at the time. Regardless, given my vehicle mileage of 58K, I figured it was probably time for a new DI anyway. I'm sure the dealership will let me know what the failure codes were and I'll find out for sure. From reading posts here, I wasn't expecting a warning - I just expected it do die one day. Anyway, I dropped it off to the dealer today.
When I dropped it off, I swapped the original DI back in while I was in their parking lot (I didn't want them taking my good DI). One of their mechanics saw me and started laughing, saying 'those things are like a spare tire - everyone should have one in the trunk' I figured while it was in the shop to have a laundry list of items taken care of:
DI Replace? (likely, but I'll know for sure when I pick it up)
Software Update
Replace SID (dead pixels)
Paint Cracks on C-pillar
PCV Update
alignment
a couple dashboard bulbs
& make two spare keys
With the exception of the alignment & the spare keys, everything else is covered by the warranty, so hopefully the bill won't be too bad - if anyone wants to tender any guesses I'll post the result tomorrow evening. So far, the service at the dealership, International Motors in Falls Church, VA, has been really excellent. The service staff seem really cool and I wouldn't hesitate to use them for warranty work. I was going to have an oil change but their only Mobil-1 was zero weight, and I want something heavier (I won't say any more in case I start another oil debate). They also provided a free rental car for two days while they take care of everything.
