'02 Linear would barely turn over, even though all the internal electricals worked fine. By the time I got to the dealership I shut it off with some trepidation, they said start it up and it did right away.
But the service advisor knew what was up, he turned the ignition to on and turned on the headlights and let it sit for a while. When he tried to start, no go. So a quick new battery for me.
By the way, when I suspected the battery was going, I too looked at the sight glass and it was fine. I also discovered, upon removing the large plastic cover over the battery, that the battery top was filthy. In other words, at the 10K and the 20K services where they have that long checklist of stuff to check (including check battery), they didn't bother. But I'm sure they submitted an invoice to Saab for a complete service, not just the oil and filter change. Owners beware. And yes, it really IS maintenance free, unlike some of these where you can pry the top off to look into the cells, these OEM Saab batteries are closed systems.
