pay him the full agreed on price.

He could have left you stuck w/no car until the title thing got cleared up. You would have been out the travel time and $$. And probably no easy recourse besides backing out of a deal you wanted. Or he might have split the additional expenses w/you, or offered to drive it half way, later.

You both took the "easiest" and least expensive way out, AND both took on LOTS of additional risk. I might have made the same choice, but he stayed on the high road and did carry out his end of the revised deal, even if it was his screw up.

Yes he screwed up. Sounds like he bent over backwards to get it cleared up for you, and let you take the car to boot. I might not have done that. (I wouldn't have put myself in his situation, either, but you took your chances, and he did, too.)

Seems like he gave you the benefit of the doubt, given his screw up, and did his best to make the best of a bad situation. Congratulations on a great car; I'd make it right.

FWIW, I just bought a house from someone who thinks like you. It's a great house for us. Due to the seller's continual screwing around, and costing us time, money, and unbelievable frustration, he won't be welcome in his ex house of 16 years. Never would have thought I'd feel that way, either.
