I'd tend to agree if you chose almost any other random part on the engine, but this one has 'history'. It wasn't really added, it was a legacy part, from the NG/9-3. The engine was not a whole new design on the accessory end. Run for run, they're practically identical.
Saab second-guessed themselves in the early run of the 9-3 and stopped installing it ... I'd guess several hundred people have done that conversion in the NG and 9-3 and there's been no reports of issues. That said, you do what you're comfortable with. I'm happy with bypassing a hard-to-repair failure point, even if there's a minute unknown risk (which is further diminished by the short belt's track record).
Of course, I'll report any difficulties...I'm aware my Aero is one of the 'lab rats' in this experiment (my LPT is next).
