So today I get my 2000 9-5 back from it's 60K service. It's out of warranty.
They make a note that I need a new positive battery cable. 100 for the part, and they say 1 hour labor. is this accurate??? I open the hood there, and the cable is trashed, but more worrysome - it looks like the battery is leaking... the terminals are gooey, and it looks like the battery sprayed over the interior... This is pretty recent - I do get under the hood pretty frequently. I certainly did not notice it the last time I was under the hood - 2000 miles ago for an oil change
When I get home, I open the the hood again and pulled the battery. the tray has some rust on it, and it looks like there is some spraying and dripping down below. I clean the battery and the terminals.
Couple of questions... This is a battery Saab put in under warranty at about 35 - 40k - the previous one died. It's a "sealed" battery, a saab white battery. Think this is something I should take to Saab - see if they'll "cover" the replacement and clean up? First time I have ever seen a battery do this and it concerns me...
If Saab won't cover it... I know I need to replace the battery and the positive battery cable. I also think the battery pan needs to be replaced. Is replacing the cable a 1 hour + job - that involved? Anyone done it? How about cleaning... can I hose off the leak? What's under the battery, looking towards the engine?
Not sure where this is going, but I would appreciate any comments or info.
