Being an older guy, I can address this with some authority. Old style spark plug wires, coils, condensor, points were high failure items. Spark plugs never went over 10,000 miles on a four stroke and in a two stroke 500 to 3,000 miles was the norm for me. Points and wiring were a failure item as well. New plug wires at least every 30-40K miles. I replaced the DIC on my 9-5 2.3lpt at 110,000 miles as a preventive measure. Plugs are replaced every 30,000 miles and are always in good shape when they are replaced. My old DIC rides in the trunk as a spare. There does seem to be room for improvement on the T7 era DICs. Hopefully we will benefit from what Saab comes up with.
