I would take your friends 15K -- chances of finding someone within a month to pay more is slim. If your friend is buying it work it through the dealer as a "Courtesy Trade" and get the tax benefit up to $15K. Basically you won't pay tax up to the $15K which, depending on your local sales tax rate, would be like getting another $600 to $1000 for your car. This way everyone wins.
FYI - A courtesy trade is when you trade in your car for a new car and have a buyer lined up to purchase it. Not all dealers will do this, but most will. Its basically like lining up a wholesaler to by your car.
