The "more rigid construction" you speak of has to do with the load rating, not the speed rating. Tires are speed rated by running them continuously on a platen at high speeds until they explode from heat. The highest speed they attain (over a several hour period) is used to determine the rating. So an S rated tire will run for several hours at 112mph with no issues (i.e no disintegration). If you plan on driving for sustained periods at 130mph, then buy a V rated tire, by all means. Otherwise, you don't need one.
Tire manufacturer's want you to think you need one though, and most everyone buys into their propaganda.
