Here we go again!

I found that I got better MPGs* with Delvac 1 (5W40) than M1 10W30. And smoother and quieter operation that is also instinctivley consistant with less friction. Felt like more power too, but thats a tricky call.

So thicker does not mean less MPGs. There are bearings where that would be true, but other thin film locations such as cams, chains and rings are not simply a fuction of a fluid wedge loss analysis. In europe, they found that thinner oils were allowing cam skuffing and damage on various make of engines. These thicker oils were evolved to solve real problems.

* with SID resets at fully hot engine temps, so the factor of the 5W vs the 10W during warmup, with seasonal effects, is out of the picture.
