threads coated with LocTite?

Hi Robert,
I have, on occasion, heard of loctite Blue being used on threads to reduce the risk of loosening. In addition, what may have happened is that the bolt has been cross-threaded and when removed will effectively ream the threads off of the oil pan - this is considered BAD - but not terminal. Be prepared. There are expandable "plugs" that can be used in place of the traditional drain plug. They are available at auto parts stores. In addition, if the threads are still semi-intact - you can wrap the threads in teflon "thread tape" from a plumbing supply store that serves to fill in the gaps. If you have this arsenal ahead of time - you will not be confronted with a car that has no oil and now you can't drive into town to get the afore-mentioned stuff. All of this is stock-and-trade for DIY's. I service the cars of my grad students and am amazed at what I encounter...
Good luck
eric
