Yes, if you stay on the throttle long enough the a/c does cut out, and the workshop manuals attest to this, but everyone of my 2.3hot Saabs (86, 92, 01) has always been significantly more responsive with the A/C off - much quicker to respond. You can sure tell the difference. Many times I want/need to accelerate quickly, not necessarily to the maximum - just a moderate burst with half-down throttle, and in these times the a/c is a substantial drag. As result, I keep the ACC in econ mode almost all the time. I'd like to enjoy more of the a/c in my old age without sacrificing the quickness.
