oops, hit the wrong button, same message continued....
HD,
we will have to trade `proud exhausted parent` stories sometime.
We still have Heath (19 lbs, 27 inches) and Gabriel (17lbs, 25 inches) in two identical Graco infant seats. They were 5 months old this week. We have two sets of bases, one for Robin`s Acura 1988 Legend V6 2Dr, and one for the 99 9-5SW.
In the SW, the bases are permanently located in the left rear and center rear seat positions. The Graco seat has a level indicator on the side which means that you have to adjust the rearward portion of the base for height (one notch). The bases overlap ever so slightly, but this does not affect the seats when they are dropped in and locked. This gives Robin or me the right rear seat, which allows us to see each other in the rearview mirror, and both boys can be easily reached from that position for feeding, mopping up or general play while we are underway.
It also provides better emergency access - our drill is driver takes the left rear and passenger takes the center one. The front passenger seat can be move up substantially.
Robin occasionally complains that the rear right seat belt is difficult to engage, but it was a question of slightly shifting positions before settling in. On our recent long trip, she did find it uncomfortable because she is about 5`9", whereas I am snug as a bug at 5`6".
I had hoped the MY99 would have had the LATCH attachment system included, but it doesn`t (began on MY00), which allows the front of the base to be securely anchored to bars underneath the seat. Come to think of it, I don`t know if the LATCH bars are present for the middle rear seat.
The seat belts have the orange tab to lock them in position, and I added one of those metal seat belt clips to the opposite side of the base to make it really secure. (I am a forensic engineer and I do vehicle accident reconstruction - therefore no chances taken in this department)
I have the fat Thule box, 15 cu feet, which was quite practical because it lots of room for our double Snap`n`Go stroller - this invention holds many styles of car seats and has been worth its weight in platinum. The box does allow the tailgate to lift easily with no interference. I have the box`s front roughly aligned with the front of the wagon`s rails, and the bars (from SAAB) are spaced 27.5" apart, with the first one at 20" behind the front rail. The fat box would probably fit my downhill skis, but I don`t think it would be long enough for my cross-country`s... There is an 11 cu ft box also available at SAAB, which is longer and narrower, and probably better for skis, but it may not fit a stroller.
We are looking forward to the 5th and 6th month, and we have friends nearby with fraternal twin girls just ten days younger than ours. We met at the local twins picnic - great to hang around with them, and it always gets a response from passersby.
