Had two Volvos in the past (850 wagon and V70).
Now with an '03 9-5 Wagon Linear.
My observations:
- Better seating in the Volvo;
- Better sound system in the Volvo (much, much better..) and I have the high-end H-K system (Premium or Prestige - I can never tell them apart!);
- Better HVAC system in the Volvo. I find the SAAB's lacks precision. I can be warm in the SAAB with temp set at 19C or cold with temp set at 21C. The Volvo's was much more precise.
- The shelf design of the wagon is brilliant!
I agree with prior statement about the Volvo's motor sound, annoying to me!
The mechanical aspect of the SAAB to me feels more refined (i.e. motor and drivetrain).. Also, the SAAB is a more adept highway cruiser.
Overall, the SAAB is more fun to drive but shows its age in areas like console lay-out and controls, size of sunroof (i.e. small), lack of interior storage (little storage; not the back area).
Finally, compare the cost of parts like disks, ball joints and other suspension components. Else, you might get a rude awakening with the SAAB.
