Decontenting vs 220hp and big brakes..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: decontenting 9-5, Joe E, Wed, 4 Aug 2004 15:36:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some things have changed, not necessarily decontented. For example there is no weather band on the radio any more for 2004. The SID has been revised. Somewhere along the line, I think before 2004, the door panels became vinyl instead of leather. No more warning triangle, disco after 2001, and somewhere also along the line the cargo net was left out.
The net covered pockets that used to be in the bottom of the B-pillars are missing. I saw a late production 9-5 without the handle in the cover covering the spare tire, just a nylon loop. Some cars, maybe Linear wagons don't have puddle lights in the rear doors anymore, the last 04 Aero I sold had 'em. And Linear wagons no longer have fog lights for '04. Some of the locating holes in the passenger floor mat and possibly the Saab logo on the mats are gone. The alarm no longer chirps. OnStar is an option, thank god, except it's still standard on the Aeros.
The winter button was deleted, but that's a non issue as since '03 you've been able to start in third gear anyway using the Sentronic. The V6 was deleted for 04.
But in exchange for some minor stuff, the 9-5 got an increase to 220hp from 185hp and the bigger Arc/Aero brakes for no additional cost. The Linear wagons went down in price several thousand, a fair trade for no fog lights.
Some folks on this BB saw that as some ominus black clound of GM bean counting influence. I thought Saab did a good job of balancing extra performance with out extra price or as in the Linear wagon, reduced price.
