Get a sample of the used oil and have a lab check it.
While RP isn't high on my list of favorite oils, it is not junk.
If you have heavy sludge and deposits, it is more likely you have some mechanical fault (like maybe coolant getting into the oil).
If the old oil has already been tossed, then wait until you have at least 1000 miles on the new batch before taking the sample.
