I heard this before, and it does sound reasonable, but I never felt capable of doing it. You need an extra hand or two to be able to hold the caliper, compress the clamp and operate a wrench on the valve -- all at once ;). Besides, I am now forced to flush the brakes at least twice a year due to the school schedule, so I can assume the fluid is in a reasonable shape most of the time... Granted, most people don't do that.
