Any Saab dealer can access all Saab performed maintenance and warranty service records.
On the underside of all DIs there is a sticker with part number, revision/version and a date code of year and month, 4 digits. You will find that described somewhere on this BB. If the date code is newer than vehicle model year.. that tells you alot; otherwise it is orginal.
As for avoiding DI death on the highway, that makes a lot of sense. While in warranty, the dead CAT risk is Saab's. After that its your risk. As a DI costs around 1/2 that of a new CAT/downpipe....
