Hi D.J.B. in Pasadena,
I'm down the 110, over in P.V.
My wife has a '99 9-5 with 36k miles and every time she backs out of the driveway, I hear the "Schreaching Noise" coming from under the hood. I was able to pop the hood when it was happening and it sounded like it was coming fron the upper idler pulley area. Once the 9-5 was on flat ground, the noise was gone (we have a compound angled driveway that twists the body of the car when transitioning from the driveway to the street). Anders (Swedecar) and I looked it over (belt and pulleys are in good shape), but could not find any thing wrong. So I figure the twisting of the chassis is causing the noise, maybe putting the upper idler pulley under stress.
