Dean, thanks much for the feed back on the short Serpentine belt. Your right about the mileage not being much on my 1999 95 se with 60,800. I question the ethics and morales about the independent mechanic that tried to convince me to have the whole tension pulley assembly outfit replaced. After he told me that news, i did go to another mechanic on the other side of town and he said something entirerly different to contradict the first mechanics word. Both of these mechanics have about 22 years of experience working on Saab's. Both mechanic did do the flashlight check on the one side of the engine. The pulleys are not neccesary making a lot of noise but i do hear some kind of screaching noise coming form under the hood when my wife drives it out of the drive way.
Question, By eliminating the small upper idler pulley and the lower large idler pulley, once you put the short belt on, is there going to be less stress put on the other pulleys by doing this modification? And what was the role of importance that these two pulleys had that you are eliminating?,other than take up the slack on the long belt.
