What I meant was Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: What he means is ..., Stephen Goldberger, Tue, 7 Sep 2004 18:07:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What I meant to say is that the contact patch is bigger, which as the Esteemed Mr. Goldberger points out, is wrong. I had a brain fade, and I thank you for the graceful save.
Too much or too little tire is pretty subjective. It depends on what you want to get out of your car. No change is an all-around improvement - they all involve some measure of compromise. To show my bias, I tend to run on the narrower, taller tire end of the equation. Not wildly so - no 165/80s. My preference for a more supple ride. I still like to bend it into turns and on-ramps, and I haven't run into too much tire roll.
The really tough part about tires is that it's really expensive to just try them out. Nobody I knows gives test drives. And since tires are an integral part of the suspension, what works on one car will work differently on another - even of the same make. So you do the best you can - ask around. And try to sort through the personal biases and preferences.
