I did "Plus Zero" sizing when I purchased Toyo Proxes FZ4 tires last Spring, installing the P225/50VR16 size at only $100 each installed.
I vote in favor of doing the "Plus Zero" upsizing. I like the looks of the slighlty wider tire, and the squashed look of this size tire on the standard width wheel helps to protect the wheel from curb rash.
I initially liked the FZ4 tires. They provided adequate snow traction with late spring or early fall snow falls when my dedicated winter tires in storage, the tread design was very good at displacing water, they provided very good dry traction, and their noise level was less than the Michelin MXV4's they replaced. Wet traction was acceptable when new but not great.
After putting 25,000+ miles on the tires, the only trait which has not deteriorated is the dry traction. They are noisy, are now susceptible to hydro-planing, and snow traction is diminished also. The tires still appear to have significant tread life remaining.
Toyo's Proxes 4 is an improved replacement for the previous FZ4 model. Early reviews have been very positive, but so was my early experience with the FZ4. Other posters have repeatedly claimed that "you get what you pay for" with tires - there is a reason some tires are cheaply priced. After my experiences with the FZ4 model these posters may very well be right.
