With a 95SET, almost the same engine, I switched from M1 10W30 to Delvac 1 5W40 (same as truck and suv 5W40). My engine ran quieter and smoother. That engine with over 100,000 miles would have had larger running clearances. And my MPGs improved as well with the 5W40. There is more to engine friction losses than what oil visosity alone suggests. Many others have reported positive experiences. So don't judge things too quickly.

Meanwhile, the official spec for oil in these engines on new production is M1 0W40. So it is really hard to reject the X40 aspect.

Both of these oils are very good. The Delvac 1 5W40 had a very robust package of additives. It has different friction reducers than M1 0W40. The D1 had zinc based, the M1 has moly based. D1 is quite clear compared to M1; which looks like a very dark maple syrup out of the bottle.

"Jason's recent posts about more vibration and less mpgs with 5-w40" Definately not my experience. I run D1 in my 03 Aero, and M1 in my wifes 04 Aero. Now, automatics shake a lot when in gear and all the more when the engine is cold and the idle air flow is higher and the trany cold load is also high. So the results will be highly dependant on what trany you have. I love the way the automatic drives (wifes) about town, very fast and agile. But the vibes when stopped bug me to no end. The 03 Aero is a manual. None of those vibes and shakes at idle.

I guess that I have come to feel that a xxW30 in these engines would be nothing less than abuse. So now Saab has finally come around and xxW30 oils are no longer specified. One might question the motive with the Saab and Mobil marketing agreement, but I do feel its all for the better.

If you feel that 0W40 feels better than 5W40 in your engine, then use that! Trust your observations!!! But don't go to a xxW30 oil.
