A Ranger or Accord is not hardly a highly "electroniced" vehicle (unless you're talking a top-end Accord V6 with climate control etc).
Nor do they have turbos, which increase the heat in the engine compartment, shortening the life of any battery.
Also OEM batteries, sorry to say, tend to be crap designed to last the warranty period. When my OEM Nissan pickup battery died (4 years old) my thought on removing the old one was: "I don't know what Hitachi makes batteries out of, but it sure isn't lead." It was that lightweight. My OEM Mercury Sable battery lasted three years. My OEM Saab battery lasted three years. Indications from Saab and Volvo newsgroups lead me to believe that batteries last - three years. (I do my own maintenance and ensure electrolyte levels are correct, terminals clean, etc etc etc.)
Now, climate makes a big difference too. If you forget your battery warmer around here in the winter, a partially charged battery can freeze overnight at -35 to -40 Celsius, and usual summer daily highs are around 30-35 Celsius. Tough on batteries.
Quickly to the point here - Around here, I would not panic if my car ate a battery every three years. With your type of vehicle and your location, as they say, "Your Mileage May Vary".
