I can only imagine it's reliable. There are few "real" cars made these days that can't get thru 3 years of life in the US without problems. I guess we can thank the fed for that. I'm sure my mums new Civic will be just as reliable and the interior shows some signs of modernization.
I didn't get to play with the paddles. Maybe when I bring my 2001 back again next week to fix the problems they didn't get this time, I will.
If it sounds like I'm disappointed in Saab, you're right. So far the 2 we've had have fallen short of the pitch. The '92 900, while reliable, dropped it's tranny at 90k. That's bull$71t!
It has had 2 head gaskets. The first one I'll chalk up to our first mechanic, maybe, but our current mechanic has been doing primarily Saabs for 20 years plus. He is favored over dealer with many we spoke with. His feeling was that the first head gasket probably wasn't the other mechanic. I forget the reason; but the point is reliability.
The 2001 is on it's 2nd radio cluster and 2nd display.
Redoing the radio/climate part of the dash wouldn't require reshaping anything. It would only require new works for the cluster as it's all one piece according to the dealer.
I feel it's poorly configured. The climate should be under the display or in the middle, under the CD/rcvr. The cassette just makes me laugh. The interior itself is fine.
Though I wish someone would add 1 touch window up to the 1 touch window down. Seems like a logical step.
The remote are the pushbuttons on the steering wheel of my 2001. I'd like to have seen some climate remote there too. The same controls could be used for climate with a switch to change between climate or radio.
Now that GM has taken it over, I expect a steady lateral pass. I don't think they have what it takes to improve a distinctive car. And there is always room for improvement.
no, I'm not selling an SPG.
