FM Modulation in the Saab is a problem if you live in or around cities with a relatively full FM dial.
Saab's dual diversity antenna (at least in my 02 wagon) is extremely sensitive, and probably the cause of less than stellar reception with FM modulated devices.
My experience with Sirius satellite radio was initially similar to all above, it didn't matter what frequency the FM modulated transmitter was tuned to, there was always background static, fade and generally muddy sound, especially so here in NYC and surrounds.
Extensive searches for an alternatives like an aux-in adapter were fruitless, there is no adapter for Saab anywhere on the planet, our vehicle numbers are not economic for anyone to produce.
I did find a very simple and inexpensive solution, a FM switchbox. This is a simple device that fits inline between the antenna and the Saab radio, and plugs into the FM out port of my Sirius radio.
For those who want to go the Sirius route with an Audiovox PNP2, the switchbox model number is SIRSWB, and available direct from Audiovox in Hauppage for around $20 including shipping.
The XM commander (what the Saab XM radio is based on) has something very similar, in fact in the XM Commander installation manual, the parts diagram shows a switchbox that looks the same as the Audiovox one, it's called a relay assembly, you can see it in this manual link below, in the receiver installation diagram on page 17.
So make sure that the dealer is aware of this when they are installing your radio, or better still don't waste your money at a dealer, you can buy the XM Commander from any one of the major outlets for around $170 or less. Installation is not brain surgery, but you will need to get two european antenna adapters.
While the FM switchbox is not the ideal solution, the difference is profound, you won't go back to normal FM/AM.
