Short belt, upper idler, and tensioner pulley.. Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 20 Nov 2004 07:38:43 In Reply to: 9-5 Drive Belt Change, Guido, Fri, 19 Nov 2004 17:50:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The short belt eliminates the need for the center idler pulley - the one which almost requires engine removal to change!.
The upper idler pulley (easiest to change) is the notorious weakest link, definitely change this one. As long as you have everything removed and out of the way, I would do the tensioner pulley too.
I replaced all three pulleys on my 2000 lpt at 105,000 miles just before the short belt option was officially released by the Factory Service Dept gurus. I am very glad I'll never have to change the center pulley again!
