If you plan on putting a lot of miles on the vehicle yourself, I would start with the lower mileage car. If you are buying it as a second car to use as an in-town runabout and not put many miles on it, the newer car would make more sense.
Of course, that assumes all else equal. If either of the vehicles has a history of accident damage or no history of service, then you should avoid them. There is also the issue of color and trim. The model year 2002 did get a freshening up with the main difference being a five-speed automatic.
Drive them and see if you like one more than the other.
