I will opine here...
My bills on thiose other cars are similar...the *Vovo* has had 3 (THREE!!!) air pumps in the last 80k miles, and while that dang pump is under the dang battery and therefore subject to a bit of acid reflux as well as water splish-splash, it's the cost of doing biz...the Max also is a bulletproof car, but SH** happens to all cars.
The Saab (an '04 9-5 sedan with only 9k miles, I will admit) is no more fragile than the others I own, mechanically speaking, and I personally think the DIC fragility is worth the price of admission...
