Actually, nothing is wrong with it. Unlike the Mustang or Vette, the GTO formula was simple: grab as much power off the shelf as you can and put it in a plain-jane midsize. Part of its appeal was the fact is was an option order, there wasn't a massive amount of custom fabrication.
I had a 65 for a number of years (sold it in September), it is worlds different in 2004, but the formula is so simple you can't really violate it. If anything, the new GTO is TOO well-optioned, and the Holden Commodore frame TOO good a platform. While you could order the original GTOs with lots of options, 99.8% of them came basically stripped. (Imagine that car with column shift & bench seats, yes, they do exist...eek!)
All that said, the 9-5 is worlds more versatile and civilized, and while it lacks that over-the-top shot of testosterone, it does fine on its own.
