During my wagon search I visted them. Yes, they have a very large selection. However, I was unimpressed during my visit.
In general, I found most of the CPO cars there to be in average to poor shape. I understand that these are used cars. But I saw cars with stained carpets, chewed-up bumper skins, and one with a nice crease in one fender. When we started up one car to test drive, it belched out a nice, big cloud of blue smoke - the very obvious sign of a bad turbo. When I pointed this out to the salesperson, she said that that's what the CPO warranty was for, assuming that anything was wrong. Every wagon I saw was missing the rear hard cargo cover. When I asked about it, they said that maybe they could do something, but implied that I would pay some of the cost.
Again, these are used cars. But I also found dealers that had very nice cars.
I visited dealerships throughout CT and even into Mass. I found a wide variation in the quality of cars. This was just my experience, and maybe it was just the cars at that time (OK, enough lawsuit protection). I found the worst quality cars at Milford and Fathers & Sons in Springfield. That's where I saw ripped bumper skins, cars that had been hit and not repaired, and was told that I'd have to pay if I wanted to get the cargo covers. I saw decent cars at Hoffman in Hartford, and Mitchell in Simsbury. Hoffman had better prices than Mitchell. At Guilford and Westport I saw the best cars - they were very clean, with all the parts accounted for. Westport had slightly better prices than Guilford.
Part of it is the quality of the cars that they buy at auction. It's pretty obvious to me that Milford buys whatever they can, and aren't very picky. That's why they've got a lot of stock. I'm sure good cars show up there.
Sometimes the difference between a nice-looking car and a rough one is simply having it detailed. It seems that some dealerships do that, and others (Milford) don't. I guess that's just dressing-up, but to me, it shows how they feel about their product. If a dealership is willing to put dirty cars with stained carpeting out on the lot, what does it say about their approach? One can say that if you save a thousand bucks, who cares, but I worry about the mechanical bits.
Again, this was last summer, and I only visited there (Milford) once. However, I looked at both 9-3 and 9-5s, and all the cars were in similarly poor shape.
