Ryan,
I haven't been back to the shop yet. The ENGINE light is now out (I think that may have been just a loose gas cap), but the BRAKE/TCS OFF/ABS/(!) indicators intermittently persist. I'll let you know if I find anything more out, but right now I'm just avoiding driving the car too much (luckily I've currently got an extra car) until I have a convenient time to bring it back to the shop. I am concerned that it is the ABS/TCS control unit or some other computer.
Have you read the thread titled 'ABS/TCS help needed' started by 'apkriby' on Aug. 6, 2004? It is the only other thread I've found that describes a similar problem -- although the poster's symptoms started differently than mine (mine had TCS OFF indicator from the beginning, and the ENGINE light wasn't on at first (and I think was unrelated to my problem)). I e-mailed 'apkirby' to see what resolution he had, and he was able to get Saab to cover about $2K of the $3500 bill, but I think that may have been because of some emissions issue. And as I stated in my prior posting, the shop I took the 9-5 to said they couldn't even pull a code (unlikt 'apkirby').
If you can, please post a follow-up on what your symptoms are (i.e., really exactly like mine? exactly like 'apkirby'? something slightly different?) and if you find out anything else as well. Is your car also a 2000 9-5 SE? How many miles does your car have (mine has about 77K miles)?
Good luck.
-Geoff95
[Note: I'm posting as 'Geoff95' instead of 'Geoff' from now on to avoid further confusion with the other Geoff. (apologies for the initial mix-up)]
