Two sources of stats: The insurers who have paid

out claims in Sweden and who do not like it, and then the limit the damage, sorta mea culpa from Saab Sweden. At this point, the insurers who live and die on statistics would be the more credible source than a PR release from corporate. The press release does not point to a mechanical explanation nor what the fix would be. SWEDECAR's analysis, adopted in some respects by others, seems to be the best going. That the loose headbolts, in a more highly stressed turbo charged engine, may be the cause. If this should prove so, one would hope that Saab worldwide would recall all cars affected to have the headbolts tightened and the engine examined for leaks at the head gasket and sludge inside the valve cover and a crankscase examination, the latter at least by a probe. Why else would they indicate that cars after 2002 are not affected?
