Going back to the original service bulletins on these mods....Saab dealers were authorized to do the mods at no charge only if the car was still under warranty and exibited specific symptoms or problems, in fact Saab would not even give me the PCV kit for me to do my own, despite having experienced a blown timing cover gasket and leaking crank seal.
Pretty 2nd class treatment considering the problem is due to their own faulty design, and can cost owners big $$$$ in repairs. Will Saab help out of warranty owners reverse the mods, or better still will they replace my blown crank seal ?
Lastly, my opinion is that the loose head bolts will not be the primary culprit here, but only a contributing factor to the engine malfeasance. I suspect the problem is that the poorly engineered PCV systems fails to continualy maintain the "positive", one directional flow to ensure the blow by gases are sucked into the intake stream and crankcase pressures are not allowed to exceed a dangerous level. So under certain conditions the entire system essentially "locks up" or perhaps produces opposite directional flow. While else would these engineering wunderkinds come up with kits that involve check valves and application of suction at the oil filler tube ?
