As long as the oil viscosity is suited for the ambient temperature, thawing shouldn't be necessary. If it's too cold for the oil, don't even start it.
The driver's manual is pretty emphatic about driving immediately, even with a graph showing how much better this is, particularly for emmissions. When it's around zero or below, I do avoid stomping the throttle until the temp guage moves up a notch, but I'm not even sure that's necessary (hey, the ECU knows what the temp is). Thank Saab for heated seats.
