Hi !

I'm from Luxembourg and recently bought a 900T16S CV with red APC. As the car had no history I knew I was taking some chances but except a problem with the idling it was running very well until today. My problem was the LUCAS FI, I had no information about it and the idle was not as perfect as I would have liked it to be or as the one of my other 16S, also with LUCAS FI. Having looked for air leaks everywhere, I changed the AIC valve, the AMM, the charcoal canister valve, the ignition wires + plugs + distributor + rotor and finally the ECU : no change, still idling poorly. I got an info from Germany and checked the settings as described in a service info (basic adj. at 650 rpm and throttle switch at 400 mV max.), again no change. Then I remembered that I had not checked my timing yet (as the car was running very well and had lots of power) : I couldn't believe what I saw : 25° !! I just can't understand how the car could run that well at 25 (I have 4 T16S and this one was the fastest by far). OK, so I set the timing to 16, and my idle was a little bit better. But then : this afternoon, while driving on the motorway I suddenly lost power and could hardly get the car home (10 km but I wish I wouldn't). At home I noticed the rubber hose between the intercooler and the throttle body had popped off.... and I could smell my cat. conv. must have been glowing. I fixed the hose and went for a ride back to the motorway (hoping the outside temp. of 0° would help to cool down the cat (but what a smell inside the car, like burned plastic...). Anyway, except the smell the car ran well again until the moment the hose popped off again. Stopped immediately, fixed and returned home.... to write this posting!!
What has happened ?? : it seems obvious that the popping-off is related to the change in the timing settings. But I should have had the problems at 25 and not at 16 which should be correct. I also can't understand why the car was so extremely fast at 25°, at 16 it behaves like my other 16S. Finally I fear my cat is shot now (and I don't even try to think at what the undercoating above the cat now looks like!!), there are carbon particles coming out of the exhaust.
Ok, this was quite long and doesn't have much style (it's almost live) and I hope someone has the answers to my questions!!
