85 900S - bucking when in gear - what could this be?

85 900S, 5 speed, 312000 miles.
Recently replaced clutch (master, slave, pedal, hydraulic line, the works), battery, thermostat, power steering fluid, transmission fluid and some other work (invoice is at home). There was also a small amount of electrical work done
I've noticed this a couple times now, but the last time I drove it, it got bad. I had just replaced the battery with one appropriate to Minnesota in January and drove to the gas station to check the tires air pressure. It was driven about 1.5 miles, then idled for about 10 minutes. During this time it ran just fine. I got back on the road and drove in city streets another 5 minutes, just fine. About the time I started to head for the freeway entrance, I noticed the effect. With even the slightest throttle application, the car would buck. It was as though someone were jabbing the throttle about 4 times a second. I had trouble reaching 55 and exited immediately and made it home. It continued this through about 1/2 mile of city streets. I cannot remember whether I tested this in neutral or with the clutch disengaged, but the engine would spin through to 4500 RPM's with no difficulty. When the transmission was in gear and the clutch engaged, it would buck as described.
Suggestions? Do I need to go buy that used 85 manual transmission from the TSN classifieds??? I hope not...
Thanks in advance!
Bryce
