Comments based on over 24 1/2 years of using (and selling) AMSOIL, starting in my Saab 99.
Since you did the rebuilding yourself, start with non-synthetic. Change the first batch at 500 miles, and you might want to make the next change in another 1000 (help remove any particles the filter doesn't catch.
I'd use an AMSOIL or Mobil 1 filter, since they are more effective than most at small particle removal.
Once oil consumption, if any, has settled and you are convinced that the rings are seated, go with synthetic.
