Hi folks,

New to the BB, here. I've been test driving classic 900s and falling in love with them. Now looking for just the right one.

I get the idea that these vehicles will require a little more maintenance than many others, and I'm fine with this. But I wonder if there are particular years or models that are less prone to really costly repairs than others. For example:

-Are some pre-94 years generally better than others on repairs?

-8v versus 16v versus turbo?

-other differences between the 900, 900S, and 900T besides the engine that effect the longevity or maintenance cost of the car?

-5 speed versus auto (please tell me the 5-sp. is the way to go!)

-Are some models easier for an amateur mechanic to work on than others?

It seems that a great many of you have Saabs that run forever (with a little TLC). To what do you attribute this longevity? Something in the engineering or is it the TLC itself?

Thanks for any help you can offer. Finally, I'm interested in knowing if there any other Saab enthusiasts in Houston. I'd be interested in connecting with you if so and learning about any independant Saab specialists (or dealers) you have worked with. Or just chatting about Saabs!
