Honda MTF results.... Posted by Jake [Email] (#225) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jake) on Mon, 8 Jan 2001 22:55:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
KevinK, ChipJ, and any others who were following my posts about the new Honda MTF, well I tried it. ooooh boy, did my tranny love that new MTF!!! I ran a Kendall non-detergent 20W oil in the tranny for 250 miles after draining out the Redline that had 30,000 miles on it. This plain cheap oil shifted better than the redline did, even when cold (I live in Maine), and shifted smoother than the redline did when warm also. The real change came when I put in the Honda stuff though. When cold, I can actually move the shifter when I first start the car. With the old Redline in the tranny, when cold, I could barely move the shifter, that stuff must have been like molasses in the gearbox. Cold shifting with the honda stuff is a bit notchy, but no grinding, and fairly smooth if you take your time and go easy. When warm though, all the gears slide in like butter, with just enough of a notchiness to feel that you have fully engaged the gear. Hey, what can you expect on a tranny with 145K, I can live with a bit of notchiness. Downshifting is great, even without double clutching, and it slides into 1st and reverse much easier (no mega-notchy shifts into first like with the redline).
By the way, when I drained my redline, I found just a little bit of metal shavings on the plug magnet. I don't know what is normal, but this was probably enough to cover the surface of a dime, maybe a bit less, with the shavings (all very tiny). No, I don't work for Honda or anything, I was just willing to try something new and didn't feel like going through the mail order process for expensive MTF when I could get it cheap over the counter. Thanks so much to KevinK for the recommendation for Honda MTF!
Cheers,
Jake
