MY SAAB IS DEAD!?

ok, here is the deal: I've put over a thousand dollars into my 88 900s over the past 6 months at a single shop (irving, tx). the other day i'm driving down the road and this shaking starts over the whole car, it sounds like i have spikes sticking out of all 4 tires, but only when it is in gear. I get it towed the 45 minutes to irving only to find out that a "tooth" has come off somewhere in the gear box and basically that i need a new transmission (manual of course). Im looking at 3000 dollars to fix. My only other option, given by the shop owner, was to sell it to him for a mere 200 dollars as a parts car.
My question is this. What should i do?? He knows full well that there is a 2 month old clutch in the car (among other things) that he could easily take out, saving him well over 2 hundred dollars...the car is worth well over that i think...i know i need a second opinion, but i dont know anyone else around dallas/ft. worth. the car is otherwise mechanically sound for being 180k miles young, says the shop owner. They have always dealt with me fairly, but i feel like im being cheated. There is a 200 dollar blaupunkt stereo in it for crying out loud!
PLEASE ADVISE ASAP
Thanks to all in advance
