Car is going in for repair - would welcome opinions

I have a '87 900T with 160K on it. The car has had some intermittent problems starting this past October. At that time the first signs of trouble were a miss in the engine when I was climbing hiss, or during heavy acceleration. Recently this problem has worsened, and now the engine loses power and hesitates whenever the APC goes into the yellow - actually the car would buck - almost like when someone who doesn't know how to drive a standard starts off driving. As the problem only seemed to happen when the APC headed toward the yellow I suspected a problem with the turbo unit. However, just yesterday the loss of power seemed to occur before the boost even climbed very high. I have an appointment to go to repair shop that specializes in SAABs in a week, but I would like to get some of your opinions before bringing it in.
I would like to keep the car going - it is the nicest car I have ever owned, however, I do not want to put a bunch of money into it. The transmission, clutch, and other work 18 months ago ($3,200) was pretty expensive and I would seriously have to weigh whether I would drop another $1,000+ on a car that is 14yrs old. Has anyone experienced similar problems, or could anyone point me in the right direction. I can do the minor stuff - Plugs/wires/fuel filter - but I am no a mechanic and it is about 15 degrees Farenheight outside. I just don't want to get taken when I bring the car in (I haven't been to this shop before - moved about 6 mo. ago). Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pete
