I'm in New Orleans, and I know how you fee regarding lack of indy Saab shops. In New Orleans there are a few foreign car places that are experienced with Saabs. Consider taking I-10 to NOLA for your next repair. See Trophy Garage on Tchop., or River Bend Foreign Car Repair, or Bimmer's Clinic in Harrahan. These shops all do Saab repairs, and further frequently undertake repairs on much more complicated cars, such as Maseratis, BMW, Jags, etc. I believe they would have charged you much less that 1550.00.
I have a '92 with 76,000, and no headgasket problems yet (sound of me knocking on wood). I am considering selling it now before anything happens. However, buying a new car is always more expensive than fixing an old one. The 378.00/month payment for 5 years on a new 9-3 just bothers me to much. I would rather fix it.
Good luck. E-mail me if you need further info re: New Orleans Saab friendly shops.
