Synthetic lubricants will clean your engine's oil passages of any sludge that is in there. Saab lifters =normally= make a little noise when started cold. The best thing you can do for them is let the car idle half a minute or so after starting before you pull out, then go gently (no turbo) until the engine begins to warm. If you live where your car is exposed to subzero temperatures, then don't use a 20W-50 oil... choose a 0W-30 synthetic that will flow readily in the cold.
I think you should just do a regular oil change with synthetic, and if you're concerned about the dirt or sludge, change it again in 3000 miles or 3 months.
Some people like Marvel Mystery Oil and add it to their engine oil. It reportedly removes sludge and varnish, and you might want to try some if you think your oil passages are dirty. I use it as a top cylinder lubricant (4 ounces to a tank of gas) but just use synthetic oil in the crankcase.
I think if you just do regular oil changes and use synthetic oil of the proper viscosity for your environment, your lifters will be lubricated and clean, without the need for your double-flush procedure.
