I'm running two 8" B.A.'s in a sealed enclosure- Posted by IrieTom [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Subwoofer box for 88 SPG, Mike, Mon, 22 Jan 2001 14:20:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
powered by a Rockford Fosgate 50wRMS (x2) amp. The box is very shallow (I don't know the exact volume, but I'd guess maybe 1.5 cubic feet) and I have it bungee'd to the back of the rear seat, so it can be easily removed if necessary.
The other speakers are 5.25" Boston Acoustics mounted just above the rear seat side armrests- the cavity behind this panel behaves like a cabinet- and a pair of cheap Blaupunkt 4" in the dash (these are earmarked to be replaced soon by a set of component speakers, I'm considering Boston Acoustics, A/D/S, Infinity, or MB Quart.) These are powered by an A/D/S 20wRMS (x4) amp.
The system has very good sound quality, and gets loud enough to hurt my ears before any distortion is noticeable. It doesn't "boom" and rattle every window in the neighborhood, however. My origional intention was to be able to hear the full range of music clearly at 75mph with the windows and sunroof open. This goal has been met.
If you already have the 10" drivers, try to find a relatively shallow sealed box (ported boxes usually have a much larger volume) which can fit behind your back seat and under the shelf. Insist that you be able to test it inside your car (do you have an amp which you can hook up to your system in advance?) and experiment with different types of music, windows up/down, maybe try a 1-2" spacer between the box and the seatback.
